A road once started, a journey that has ended but a life and legacy that will always live on.

I can still remember the first time I watched the Incovenient Truth by Al Gore. I wasn’t paying attention much. First of all, the topic didn’t interest me. Second, I honestly didn’t care much coz I think it was something quite not possible.

But that was then.

A friend of mine sent this group message last night. Right now, I couldn’t really remember what it says but it lead to a link and she said something like her being scared about it. I got intrigued. So I clicked the link and it led me to another Inconvenient Truth.

“Scientists alarmed: Climate is changing faster than expected”. It was an article from a local newspaper, Manila Bulletin. I had been bothered by this whole climate and weather change for a long time now but this article made it even more bothersome.

The 36-page report summarized from 1,400 studies by some 2,000 scientists showed that there is new scientific evidence that ocean temperatures, sea levels, extreme climate conditions and the retreat of the Arctic sea ice have picked up more pace than experts predicted in the 2007 report by the United Nations (UN) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Picked up more pace.?? as if it isn’t fast enough as it is. I mean, it’s true, right? Even before. We can feel and / or see how fast the climate changes.

For example, here in the Philippines. We don’t usually have tornadoes. We don’t usually have ice falling from the skies. We don’t usually have rainy summers. We don’t, usually.

But recently, it had been happening. The summer of this year was rainy. A month or so ago, some tornado attacked somewhere in Manila and just last week, the uncle of my friend said that it was raining ice in Batangas, one of the summer hotspots here in the Philippines.

It wasn’t usually like that. It was never like that. Something like that NEVER happened. So why now? After so many centuries of having our climate at equilibrium, why does it change drastically all of a sudden?

“The world faces a growing risk of abrupt and irreversible climatic shifts,” scientists warned.

Doesn’t the word “irreversible” bother you? It bothers me. A lot. What if it actually came to a point where we humans can’t do anything about it anymore? Can we really not undo the things that we’ve done? Can we not do something about this whole tragedy that we’ve caused? Think about it. Undoing something isn’t as easy as pressing ctrl + z or something. It’s something we have to work on together, with the full cooperation of one another. It is only our generation that can fix all this. We may be suffering from this whole climate change now but future generations will suffer even greater. Can we bear the thought that it will most probably us that will cause their suffering? Can we bear the thought that it is us, who is slowly destroying our planet? Think about it.

is taken against the puppeteer…
who didn’t even have a clue.
